Bodiam Castle is a 14th-century moated castle near Robertsbridge in East Sussex,
just 30 miles from Blue Door Barns. It was built in 1385 to defend the area against
French invasion during the Hundred Years' War.

The cottage garden and surrounding Sussex landscape were a constant source of inspiration for Virginia Wolf who lived her from 1919. You can visit this intimate home and gardens, which has been carefully preserved with the sense that it’s occupants have just stepped out for a walk.
Charleston was the home and country meeting place of the Bloomsbury group and private residence of Vanessa Bell. Now the home to an array of changing artist exhibitions and a twice yearly literary festival.

This vineyard specialises in the production of artisanally-made wines. With a raft of delicious , premium white, red, rose still wines, and a selection of sparkling wines, Bolney Estate is also award-winning. The Breaky Bottom vineyards were first planted in 1974 and have only ever harvested grapes from its own region, a secluded fold nestled into the South Downs. Peter Hall, creator and owner of the Estate has always only focussed on sparkling wines with an emphasis on Champagne varieties. In 1993, The 1990 vintage Seyval Blanc won a Gold Medal in the 1993 International Wine Challenge.

THE RIDGEVIEW ESTATE
Within a 30 minute drive of Blue Door Barns, Sussex also boasts The Ridgeview Estate founded in 1995 by Mike and Chris Roberts, and despite its great succeess remains, at its heart, a family run business. Ridgeview originally experimented with three grapes which proved to grow very successfully in Sussex. These included Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. Ridgeview has a commendable focus on sustainability including such initiatives as a waste treatment programme called Bio-Bubble, with focus on crop bio-diversity and solar power.
